The search for jeans is complete - my generous bum fits in a pair from Simply Be :) I may also have purchased a new mug - Keep Calm I'm A Student Nurse - although I feel i should have got one that said 'quick, run like the wind' with a mad nurse on it complete with syringe!

I have a had a MAJOR wobble today, cried and told B (my partner) that I simply can't go on monday and I shall spend the day in bed, promptly followed by me stamping my feet like an irrate toddler!!

I have also had a nervous breakdown about finance (those poor bursary people must go home and have a large bottle of vodka!) continuing students haven't been paid, new students are demanding to know if they will get their bursaries on time! Students are rather impatient when it comes to their beer money ;)

But it shall be grand, the fridge pack of beans was on offer in Asda (£1 for those not in the know, did you know you can get spaghetti hoops in the same format?) so, the family will not starve for the next week!

So, thats it, all set for monday. Tomorrow I shall send the family out for an hour or so and I will read all the bumpf from uni, and sunday will be spent chilling with the family as im not sure when I will see them again!!

Who would have thought, ME, a student nurse :D
Eeek 3 Days to go!!! I have joined the RCN and received my pin badge yesterday which I will wear with pride :)

I know it sounds silly considering I am a 36 year old mum of 3, but I have been fretting about 'The Outfit', you know, for the first day at university.  I am large you see, and me and fashionable clothes don't go very well! So, for my first day I shall be wearing a dress (bargain at £10!) complete with a little cardi and flat shoes, and my bargain bag from Tesco as I haven't been able to afford my beloved CK bag yet!!

I went online and was looking at the uni blackboard, and what should I find? OUR FIRST MODULE!!!! Arrgghh!! very excited, apprehensive, scared..............!! So, I have printed it off and already downloaded 4 journal articles that are recommended reading! Yay, for my Nursing Standard subscription, which I imagine will be an excellent resource throughout my 3 years.  In fact, it was a valuable resource for when I was doing my Access Project - which was entitled: 'Evaluate the introduction of mealtime volunteers in a hospital setting to prevent malnutrition amongst the elderly.'

I chose this because of an article I read in NS, and it is part of the CARE campaign.  I was overjoyed with my results, not so much the grades but the feedback I received from my lovely tutor.  I had hit a wall whilst doing this project, overwhelmed by the sheer volume of research I had collected.  But my tutor got me through it and I am truly thankful for that.

I am so glad I used the topic I did, as in my final year project we have to look at ways to improve care etc, and this would be ideal (although no doubt there will be mannnnyyyyy topics I would like to do!).

So, I am off to Marksies in a bit to see if they have jeans that will fit!!

Oooo! well one has gone state of the art and joined the newer digital age by hooking up to Wi Fi!! (I know, how behind the times are we!)  means that I can move my study space upstairs with my lovely new desk given to me by my sister in law Nicola, who I should mention is a fabulous Learning Disability Nurse :)

The kids can have the dining room table back and won't have to eat their meals off their laps!!

I should point out that I need a new laptop, as this one, like its owner, is rather old and slow and doesn't have much memory!!

Did I tell you I enrolled on friday? they have given us our Student Handbook and a big old pack for our portfolio!

Im so excited, yet so scared!!!

Friday 14 September 2012

Well, I am officially a STUDENT NURSE!!!! enrolled today, and received my student ID complete with hideous photo!

Received our course handbook so will have a good old read later!

Went on a tour around the School of Health building ~ it is fab and I can't wait to get stuck in, seeing all the simulation rooms complete with mock hospital ward!

Just over a week to wait :D

Wednesday 12 September 2012

OK, so I have badly sprained my ankle! trust me! My partner B, made me go to the hospital today to get it checked out (I felt like a right plank!) told the Dr I didn't want to waste their time - I'm 36 yrs old and only needed to visit A & E 4 times! one of those was when I had pneumonia whilst pregnant with my son Oscar!! I really am one of those people who is very reluctant to visit medical establishments unless absolutely necessary!

In there 30 minutes, the majority of this time was spent walking from the car to the department, and in the shop trying to by a bottle of water and a cheeky bar of chocolate!! Dr had a look, damaged ligaments and sprained - 10/14 days recovery - fantastic!! would be OK if I had been legless or wearing fabulous heels, but no, just casually walking in my living room barefoot!

I have been looking at shoes (every girls dream!) and have decided on a rather fetching pair of green converse for uni, and a pair of Dr Martens Black Mary Jane's for placements. I have always been rather fond of DM's and out of curiosity had a sneaky peep at their floral boots - so pretty!! Which brings me to my other love Cath Kidston - yes, I know it is becoming increasingly popular, but I love her and have decided on a nice bag, hey what is a gals student loan for?!

I'm meeting up with a lovey friend tomorrow who is about to qualify as a Children's Nurse - WOOP!! will be lovely to catch up :)

Then Friday we enrol!!! and I pick up my god awful student card - seriously, I may scare people with THAT hideous photo!

So I will let you know how it goes :) x

Friday 31 August 2012

Second day of blogging! I promise it will become more interesting.  Another day at the hospice, its weird I enjoy being there and the more I am, it makes me realise how much I want to be a nurse.  Not long to go now, I am sure the time will fly.  Kids are back to school next week so I will sort out my files and paper work to get everything in order.

I know my first year modules:

Care, Compassion and Communication
An Introduction to Human Dvelopment and Functioning Across the Age Continuum
The Role of the Nurse in Improving Well Being
Fundamentals of Caring and Professional Nursing Practice
Introduction to Decision Making

All very exciting :)
